RECONNECTION CHARMS
2025, Sculptures: 3D Printed Resin, Bead, Wire, Mini Video Players, 6 x 6 x 2cm (each, excluding strap)
‘Reconnection Charms’ is a series of sculptural video devices, made in residence with the Edify programme at King's College London. The work considers the experience of wearing a health tracker and the intimate level of access we give these devices to our bodies. The work imagines how our devices could depart from black boxes which transmit our data away from ourselves and could instead become comforting companions which bring us back to our bodies. They are inspired by toys like Tamagotchis as digital items that encourage care as well as charms and worry stones as objects that can be tactile, grounding and soothing.
The work seeks to create a sense of lightness and playfulness whilst encouraging the audience to reflect upon their own connections with their bodies. They are speculative devices that rethink our relationship between technology and the body and seek to heal the sense of separation between mind and body. Overall the work hopes to encourage the audience to feel more in-tune with their body and to approach themselves with greater care.
