Receiver is a time-based sculptural work, incorporating 3D printing and animation. Analysing humanity’s symbiotic relationship with technology the piece splices together a hacked LCD screen with a 3D printed bust, derived from a photogrammetric scan of the artist. Receiver reflects on the power and prevalence of data in our modern society and questions how much of ourselves we give over to technology. Layering procedural clouds, 3D objects and 2D graphics, the embedded video integrates multiple workstreams, file formats and data types. Referencing aviation heads up displays as a paradigm of virtual data streams synced with reality, the work analyses the relentless flows of information that are transmitted and received by humanity.
