OBLITERATION MASK

‚Äč

Exploring themes of identity and the self, the embroidered detail on 'Obliteration Mask' visually references the draped structure of Chinese landscape painting and similarly cascades across the performer's face. The stitching is inverted, exposing the underside, creating haphazard patterns, in reference to Outsider Art.

When worn the mask distorts and disfigures the wearer’s face. The layered threads visually destroy the underlying performer's portrait, creating violent interruptions on the exterior form, reflecting the unbalance of the interior.
